At Metropolitan Galleries, we take great pride in our ability to bring history to life through the creation of stunning custom bronze sculptures. Recently, we had the distinct honor of producing life-size statues of four esteemed former Governors of Kentucky: James Garrard, William Bradley, Robert Letcher, and William Owsley. These remarkable sculptures, meticulously crafted by our talented portraiture artist Dianne Ellis, now grace the front of the Garrard County Justice Center, serving as a tribute to the rich heritage and outstanding leadership of these influential individuals.

Capturing the Essence of Leadership: The process began with the collaborative efforts of our team and Dianne Ellis, who skillfully translated the desired renderings of all sides of the statues. With unwavering attention to detail, Dianne meticulously brought each Governor’s likeness to life on paper, ensuring that their unique characteristics and dignified presence were accurately portrayed.

From Clay to Bronze: Once the drawings were finalized, our skilled sculptors embarked on the transformation of these two-dimensional renderings into three-dimensional masterpieces. Employing the traditional method of lost wax bronze casting, the statues took shape through the careful sculpting of clay. The talented hands of our artisans deftly molded and refined the clay statues, capturing the essence of each Governor’s stature and expression. This crucial step allowed for meticulous adjustments to ensure the utmost accuracy and authenticity.

The Transformation of Lost Wax Bronze Casting: After the completion of the clay statues, the process transitioned to lost wax bronze casting, a time-honored technique revered for its ability to produce exquisite bronze sculptures. The clay statues served as the foundation for creating detailed molds, which were then used to cast the statues in bronze. The molten bronze, poured into the molds, assumed the shape and intricacies of the clay sculptures, preserving every nuance and expression of the Governors.

Preserving History: The life-size bronze sculptures of James Garrard, William Bradley, Robert Letcher, and William Owsley now stand proudly in front of the Garrard County Justice Center. These magnificent tributes not only honor the esteemed individuals who once held the position of Governor but also serve as reminders of Kentucky’s rich political heritage and the dedication of these leaders to public service.

Conclusion: Metropolitan Galleries is honored to have been entrusted with the task of immortalizing the legacy of four prior Governors of Kentucky. Through the remarkable skill and artistry of our portraiture artist Dianne Ellis, and the time-honored technique of lost wax bronze casting, these life-size statues now stand as lasting testaments to the influential figures who shaped Kentucky’s history. As we continue to create custom bronze sculptures that celebrate the past and inspire the future, we invite you to explore the rich tapestry of artistry and history that adorns the Garrard County Justice Center in Kentucky.

If you would like to learn more about our process or explore the possibility of creating your own custom bronze sculpture, we welcome you to contact us at Metropolitan Galleries. Our team of experts is ready to bring your vision to life and create a timeless work of art that pays tribute to the stories and individuals close to your heart.

It is a sorrowful sight to witness the gradual decay of some of the world’s most remarkable historical sculptures over the passing centuries. However, there is hope in the form of expert historical sculpture reproductions. Metropolitan Galleries, a leading authority in the field, was entrusted with the task of recreating historical marble sculptures that had been tragically destroyed in a devastating fire at the Leland Stanford Mansion several decades ago in Sacramento, California. With our expertise and unparalleled ability, we embarked on the mission to develop stunning works of statuary that would pay homage to these lost masterpieces.

At Metropolitan Galleries, the process of crafting a custom marble sculpture is a meticulous and time-intensive endeavor. It typically takes anywhere from three to five months to complete. The journey begins with the creation of a clay mold, meticulously carved to capture and refine the intricate details of the original artwork. Throughout this process, we provide regular updates and photographs to ensure that every minute detail is adjusted and finalized before moving forward.

Once the clay mold has been perfected, our talented marble sculptors embark on the multi-dimensional measurements required to transfer the design onto a slab of solid marble stone. This transformative stage involves chiseling and sculpting the marble to create a three-dimensional work of art. The process demands unwavering attention to detail and a meticulous approach, as a single incorrect chisel could jeopardize the entire piece. The craftsmanship and precision required in this labor-intensive process are awe-inspiring.

After the completion of the marble sculpture, a thorough inspection ensues to ensure that every detail aligns with the original vision. The sculpture is then meticulously wrapped and carefully crated, ready for installation at its designated location. In the case of the historical marble sculptures reproduced for the ‘Leland Stanford State Historic Park,’ the recreated pieces were destined to adorn the Stanford Mansion, once owned by Leland Stanford, the esteemed Governor of California.

To breathe life back into these historical sculptures, our talented and skilled artist, Dianne Ellis, utilized a combination of design concepts and drawings sourced from the limited photographs available. From inception to the final delivery, Metropolitan Galleries took great pride in playing a crucial role in restoring the historical ambiance of the Stanford Mansion through these painstakingly reproduced sculptures.

We invite you to explore the remarkable custom Marble Angel Sculpture we developed, paying tribute to a lost loved one. It stands as a testament to our commitment to capturing the essence of the original artwork while infusing it with new life. If you are interested in developing your own custom work of statuary, we encourage you to reach out to us at 1-800-929-1681. Our team at Metropolitan Galleries will be delighted to guide you through the process and bring your artistic vision to fruition.

Metropolitan Galleries continues to dedicate itself to the preservation and reproduction of historical sculptures, ensuring that the legacy of these incredible artworks lives on for future generations to appreciate and admire. From Mr. Madonna’s Obituary

Alex Madonna, whose highway construction, cattle ranches, philanthropy and world-famous Madonna Inn made him a legendary figure on the Central Coast.  Madonna, the grandson of Swiss immigrants, befriended business colleagues, politicians, educators, employees and even actor John Wayne. He was a self-made man who loomed large in the public’s consciousness. His easy sense of humor, fierce independence and, at times, dogged stubbornness further distinguished him.  He influenced hundreds of people and gave millions of dollars away quietly.  Besides the inn, his empire consisted of the Froom Ranch property where San Luis Obispo’s Home Depot is located, Broadway Plaza shopping center in Santa Maria, and several thousand acres of property in San Luis Obispo County, including about 2,000 acres surrounding San Luis Mountain. He also owned cattle and horse ranches around California and Oregon.  Among ranchers, Madonna was often referred to as “the host from the coast.”  Madonna’s construction firm built or repaved most of Highway 101 from Salinas to south of Buellton, as well as about 70 miles of Highway 46 and Highway 41 from Cholame to Fresno. As well, Madonna had a hand in resurfacing much of Highway 1 between San Luis Obispo and Carmel.  The inn itself was a major achievement. Famous for its pink decor, themed rooms, and whimsical cupid theme throughout.

Metropolitan Galleries specializes in custom designed and developed bronze sculptures and fountains. Our company was founded in 1993 by Steven Bennett and his vision was for Metropolitan Galleries to be the leading sculpture dealer in the United States. This led to us not only working with bronze sculptures and fountains developed from a reproduction or common sculptures, we began to sketch out and design our own sculpture designs.

This particular Bronze Turtles & Jellyfish Sea Fantasy Sculpture (SRB48659) operates as a sculpture fountain, designed by Metropolitan Galleries and drawn out for production by our fellow artist Dianne Ellis. Dianne has worked with Metropolitan Galleries for over 16 years and holds extreme talent for sketching out drawings and portraiture. We designed this bronze turtles and jellyfish sea fantasy fountain to potentially be used by a nautical park, zoo or aquarium.

Custom Designed Bronze Sculpture Turtles and Jellyfish Sea Fantasy Fountain by Metropolitan Galleries Inc. Aquarium Nautical Beach Maxwell TaroOnce the drawings were sent to our foundry, a clay and wax mould was created with intricate, hand forged details. After the clay and wax mould hardens, the sculpture mould is then used in the lost wax bronze casting method to develop the final bronze sculpture. This is the most labor intensive and time consuming method of casting bronze sculptures. The next step of development is to apply the finish. The finishes on bronze sculptures are applied by hand and flame. The sculpture has small fish around the base with hand painted details and a durable gloss finish as to keep the original look of the sculpture.

When this Sea Fantasy Sculpture is operating as a fountain, water shoots out from several areas of the sculpture, making it a stunning work of sculpted art. From concept to completion, Metropolitan Galleries can help make your dream sculpture a reality.
