At Metropolitan Galleries we are committed to and excel in creating beautiful and artistic Memorials. A memorial is an object which serves as a focus for memory of something, usually a person or a beloved pet (who has deceased) or an event. Popular forms of memorials include landmark objects or art objects such as sculptures, statues or fountains, and even entire parks.
In 2018, we were in Paris, and we visited the amazing Père Lachaise cemetery. The beauty of the landscaping with the memorial sculptures remains unparalleled. Metropolitan Galleries was so inspired by the beauty of the memorials at Père Lachaise. Père Lachaise Cemetery (French: Cimetière du Père-Lachaise) is the largest cemetery in the city of Paris (44 hectares or 110 acres) though there are larger cemeteries in the city’s suburbs. The cemetery of Père Lachaise is in the 20th arrondissement and is notable for being the first garden cemetery, as well as the first municipal cemetery. It is also the site of three World War I memorials. Each year, Père Lachaise Cemetery has more than 3.5 million visitors, making it the most visited cemetery in the world.
Metropolitan Galleries also recommends memorial benches or memorial seats, a piece of furniture which commemorates a person. Sometimes the person may be deceased, however bronze bench memorials are made to honor the living as well. Typically, memorial benches are placed in public places but are often also placed in domestic gardens.Â
