Custom Whimsical Pan Bronze Sculpture

SRB10128 Bronze Whimsical Pan Sculpture exclusively designed and produced by Metropolitan Galleries Inc

In ancient Greek mythology, Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks. He is also recognized as the god of fields, groves and wooded glens from his homeland in rustic Arcadia. He is connected to the season of spring and fertility and was often depicted as part of the raucously wild and unruly retinue of Dionysus, the god of wine & agricultural fertility and patron of the theater arts.

While Pan’s parentage is uncertain, some say he is the son of Hermes & Dryope while others say he is the son of Zeus or the son of Penelope, wife of Odysseus. His birth was said to be so distressing to his mother, due to his unusual appearance, that she abandoned him but he was taken in by the gods on Mount Olympus and he became a quite beloved favorite to them all.

He possessed incredible strength, was impervious to injury and could run for long periods of time. It was believed that he was able to teleport himself between Mount Olympus and Earth at will and he was quite shrewd and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He is often depicted as energetic whirlwind of creativity in nature though sometimes frightening. He’s definitely a very interesting character!
